I can't remember whether or not it is in Jeff VanderMeer's original book that the movie is adapted from. There is a monster in that movie that is just a straight up adaption of the Alzabo. If you want to see an on screen version of the Alzabo just watch the movie Annihilation. He clearly likes the boy, but he never really stops to mourn his loss.Īlso, the Salamander and Alzabo were both great sequences. Having Little Severian die so suddenly was quite a shock, and I kinda wanted Severian to be bit more sad over his death. Their conversation was really transportive, and was probably the moment where the series started to really feel "other worldly" to me. The whole sequence where he meets Typhon was amazing. This book had probably my favorite moments of the whole series so far.
